Having had a very successful market last week I was delighted to be invited to join the Bayside Style Group for a two day boutique shopping event.

YAY.

So there's more stress  creative energy  and mess creative activity at my place!

snowballs

Black and white Snowflakes transferred onto hemp fabric, with shimmery silver-on-linen backs. The raw edges will soften as they are handled over the years.

 

The illustrations are of actual frozen snow crystals from an early encyclopedia. A bit primitive looking, but so fun!

 

It's often hard to think of Christmas decorations that work well with summer.  I think these are perfect.

Gentle, crisp, nostalgic and calm.

They are packaged in their own calico bag to ensure they stay together and dust free. My hope is that they become heirloom decorations, to be enjoyed for years to come.

They'll be heading to market tomorrow night, but if you can't make it, and would like some let me know (Australia only at this stage).

'my' bag organiser

I absolutely fell in love with Carly's  purse organiser.

So, I whipped one up myself. 

Actually whipped is not really the word, toiled, slaved, agonised would better suit.

 Let me assure you I will not make another so all the purse-organiser-makers need not be concerned by about declining sales!! 

 It was fiddly (understatement) to make.  But I'm impulsive and impoverished and really, really wanted one.  I wanted it so badly (like NOW) that I bought a piece of foam and set to work with fabric I had on hand.  In spite of the difficulty I had making it I LOVE it and highly recommend them to anybody who wants to reduce the clutter in their bag and to be able to find things quickly.  Although I don't have my big ol' camera pictured in the organiser it fits right in the centre, snug and protected. 

You can easily Google them or search through Etsy.

It's worth every penny the manufacturers charge, I promise!

I saw a cushion I liked in Spotlight. I didn't like the colour, I didn't like the price, but I did like the idea!

I used upholstery thread and the longest stitch and then back and forth in very random lines

oobees

Super cute, super quick.

There is a growing heap of these baby oobees at my place. Tigs school fete is coming up soon and I'm donating a clutch (the collective term for oobees) of these sweeties. I'm dreaming up some little pirate ones so the boys don't feel left out :)

Our dear friends have had a baby girl. Olivia. And as you'd expect she's just lovely.




She was hard fought for and we are so delighted that she's finally here for all of us to love and to cherish. And finally we get to see her parents become the parents they have dreamed of being for so long.

I know you can never have too many bibs with a baby and these linen-topped, lawn-bottomed and flannel-backed bibs that I make have become renowned for both working well and seem to repel even the most tenacious of foods



Olivia's parents have the most fabulous collection of vintage 'objets' and furniture so I knew they'd appreciate the vintage nursery fabrics on the ball. I can't wait to see Olivia playing with it. It has a sweet little jingle-bell inside too!

I've long admired these beautiful linen hot water bottle covers that Kris makes. Tigs always likes to take one to bed. Woo on the other hand is always quite warm but wanted one too. I have usually had to sneak Tiggy's in to his bed as we only had one in the house! Crazy I know as they are one of the most cost effective and quaint ways to warm chilly feet and to take the edge off the cold between the sheets in winter!

So this year while we were away I finally got around to making them. Both of my children love to take an armful of snuggly critters to bed with them each night. Their essentials are the North American Bear Company Baby Cozies that they have both had in their cots since they first made it into our arms.



Woo has this one and this is Tiggy's. Adorable, soft, snugglies. And so I used their precious friends as inspiration for their covers.
I used ultra-velour for their bodies and on the backs of the covers to give the soft and feely quality they love and the linen to appeal to my aesthetic!

bunny tails

My babies love their "yolk eggs" in the morning.



Wooie likes hers rock hard, cool, and with the yolk removed (what?). If I'm not fast enough and leave the egg in its shell near her she, bizarrely chomps through that too. YUK!

On the other hand Tigs likes his egg barely set. He likes a 'volcano' to erupt when he stabs the yolk with his soldier.

Me, I can well live without eggs altogether. It is a testament to my love for my children that I make them at all. Of all the ways of cooking eggs, "yolk" ones would be the most repulsive to me. I almost gag at the smell. And the oozing ... oh gosh I gag even more.

Anyway at long last needle and thread found their way to cloth!
The one and only nice thing about boiled eggs for me is to cover them with something sweet.
I hope my babes will like their Easter-Bunny-Tail-Yolk-Egg-Covers.

girls' night in

last thursday night - and into the small hours - a 'girls night in' was held to raise money for women's cancer research.

my dear friend lisa and i braved it and decided to finally share our handiwork with others.

it was for a good cause and it came to us so fast that we didn't have time to reconsider.

we were a little unprepared but i had a 'light bulb moment' that when you are in control of making the goods, there will never be enough, you'll never be ready and you'll never feel like you have a wide enough range. it was a handy realisation the night before and enabled me to a) relax before the evening and b) whip up a new item to add to the stall about 2 hours before i left.

odd that in this acceptance more creativity arrived. think i should hold on to it.


amazing what a bunch of pink clad women, eating delicious, if a little pink, food, drinking plenty of vin can achieve in a short while.
in the process $1300 was raised.
we paid for, and then released balloons, carrying wishes to strangers.


i was tickled pink by the support my humble little offerings gained from the gathering.
this was my very first attempt at a 'stall'.

oh, dear.

i don't think words can explain as well as these do. at least the mess equals the productivity.
i'm hoping to sell some things in a couple of weeks, rather a week, actually 5 days - gulp - at a friends house. so the house will likely remain in this state until then and maybe beyond it as i crash in a heap.

spy satchels for little boys.

school fete today.
there has been a buzz around the school, this house and at least two family members (tigs and me) in it.
my house is trashed with threads, snippets of fabric and a hundred ideas mid-flight.

i spy ...

tigs' school has it's annual fete in a month and i've been busy making goodies to contribute to the craft stall. we have a great bunch of mum's who are incredibly clever so it's going to be more like a craft market than a stall.
you won't find knitted coat hangers or toilet roll covers at this fete!

any way i've finished a pile of spy kits - as modelled by my beautiful but very unwell little boy. he's got the flu (the proper flu - not a bad cold). his temperature is all over the place - mostly very high and has been since saturday. i really hope he manages to get back to school even for a day, before the holidays begin. poor lad.
